Gabriel’s Inferno by Sylvain Reynard and GIVEAWAY

Available: Now Amazon/B&N

Type: Contemporary Romance

Publisher: Omnific

My Copy: Tour

Professor Gabriel Emerson, a specialist in Dante and the art of seduction, believes he has already earned his exile to the lower circles of hell. Since redemption is impossible, there is no reason to refrain from indulging in a life of pleasurable sin, using his notorious good looks and sophisticated charm as a means to gratify his every whim. But when he meets Julia Mitchell, a brilliant, lovely, and innocent grad student with the achingly familiar eyes of an angel, all of his cynical convictions are challenged. Her mysterious allure and the havoc she wreaks on his self-satisfied existence cause him to lash out at her, while her quiet beauty and innate goodness consistently undermine his control, tempting him beyond measure.

Despite surviving a traumatic childhood, nothing has shaken Julia’s faith that redemption is possible for everyone-everyone but her. Her unworthiness torments her, since the only man she will ever love has managed to forget her very existence, failing to even recognize her when they reconnect. Too naive to see that Gabriel’s hostility is a mask for his increasing obsession with her, Julia forces him to come to grips with his past while she continues to unwittingly torment his senses. His fascination grows into a dangerous preoccupation, for Julia is forbidden fruit . . .

Will Gabriel survive the inferno, or will he succumb to the flames?

.

On my Goodreads status I put “Sexiest book ever with virtually no sex. Wow” and I meant every word of that statement. I was, simply put, amazed with the range of emotions, sensuality and depth of Gabriel’s Inferno!

Gabriel is a conflicted and haunted character. He regrets much of his past and has found that as atonement he should basically never be truly happy again. He holds himself above simple standards and become accustomed to his cold attitude. His one true moment of happiness was with a young Julia in a orchard behind his childhood home. Chemicals  cloud his brain though and when he sees Julia again years later, he has no idea she is his lifelong muse.

After a extremely bad breakup she refuses to tell anyone about, Julia has transferred to a college in Canada. It just happens to be the college her first kiss, Gabriel, is teaching at. Torn between revealing her true identity as the girl in the orchard years before and telling him where to shove his nasty attitude and condemning looks.

Slowly these two will need to open up to the past as well as the future if either of them is to grow to be what they were destined to become.

.

Gabriel’s Inferno was overall an excellent read. Filled with tons of sensuality and held together with misunderstandings and stoic behavior. I was constantly wavering between loving Gabriel and straight up hating him. He would show glimpses of emotion and caring and then say something completely rude or controlling. I gravitate toward alpha type males in any story. I love those heros that take over a book. BUT, Gabriel rode the line between controlling and alpha and for much of the book I was completely on the fence whether I liked him or not. After the halfway mark of the book I felt like I could like Gabriel a bit more and that seemed to evolve the closer I got to the end. By the last page I felt like I understood his behavior and tangle of emotions and could justify his actions from the past pretty well.

Julia. Ahhhh Julia. Me and her didn’t get along very well. I felt she was a doormat for the majority of the book. I totally understood her reaction based on her experience with her ex-boyfriend, but, her innocence regarding everything was annoying at times. She was a virgin, and that could account for the behavior, BUT she wasn’t a virgin with “everything” and so I felt like her acting as if she was, got old pretty fast. Sure, the experience she had wasn’t pleasant, but experience is experience. I wanted her to take control of the situations happening around her…not only in the sex department but also in the social aspect. I wanted her to just tell him she was his muse in the orchard years before. It baffles me when females think guys can read their mind. It was obvious he didn’t remember her, why not just tell him? Instead we get her hinting for the majority of the book and then when it does come to light the rest of the book is him apologizing for being an ass to her. I would have liked her to be a bit more assertive and strong.

When the two of them finally get together it is wrought with emotion and conflict. They have to hide their association from everyone since technically he is her teacher. He won’t own up to her about his past or what eludes him of happiness now. She refuses to tell him of her ex-boyfriend and the situations surrounding their breakup. However, when they touch something magical happens. The feel of the book almost completely changes from the heaviness that is Gabriel’s Inferno to this carnal sesensuality that seems to bleed from the pages into the readers lap. It’s seriously electrifying and if nothing else draws you to this book, that should. It seems to crawl around on the page, in and out of sequences, but hovering there…always present. The buildup to sex in this book is unlike anything I have ever read. Even when Gabriel is being and ass and Julia is being a bit wishy washy, there is this smoldering of emotions in their gazes to one another, this promise of what is to come. What has been set in motion years ago and there is no stopping it.

The Dante aspect was extremely in depth and gave this book another dimension on top of the romance. There were times I thought this could double as some sort of text on the subject. Reynard has done excellent research on the subject and I rather enjoyed the added information on top of the story. I wasn’t keen on the NIN references. One, I tend to like the song Closer. Two, NIN is more then just one song and I find other songs of theirs to have life lessons and great lyrics. I thought that Gabriel telling her he’d no longer listen to any music of theirs if it upset her was a bit much. Don’t listen when she’s around. But I refuse to change my taste in music for anyone. Just because a song or an artist would upset a friend or my husband, doesn’t mean I’m going to ban them from my ears altogether. What is Julia would have said she didn’t like a book because her boyfriend used to read it to her in a leering voice….should Gabriel ban that book from his library?

I found that while I had some issues with this one, I still LOVED it. Something happens when it all comes together that just sucks you into the book and holds tight as you navigate through it. Sexy, sensual and in depth, you walk away feeling like you connected on a deeper level then with most books. Maybe its the characters, maybe its the information and history of Dante and his struggles, maybe its something more…I don’t know, but I do know that Gabriel’s Inferno is worth the read. Worth your time and worth the effort you put into it.

I give Gabriel’s Inferno by Sylvain Reynard 4.50 stars!

Deeper Than Midnight by Lara Adrian (Midnight Breed #9)

Available: Now Amazon/B&N/Borders

Type: Paranormal Romance

Publisher: Bantam

My Copy: Blog Tour

Delivered from the darkness, a woman finds herself plunged into a passion that is Deeper Than Midnight.

At eighteen, Corinne Bishop was a beautiful, spirited young woman living a life of privilege as the adopted daughter of a wealthy family. Her world changed in an instant when she was stolen away and held prisoner by the malevolent vampire Dragos. After many years of captivity and torment, Corinne is rescued by the Order, a cadre of vampire warriors embroiled in a war against Dragos and his followers. Her innocence taken, Corinne has lost a piece of her heart as well – the one thing that gave her hope during her imprisonment, and the only thing that matters to her now that she is free.

Assigned to safeguard Corinne on her trip home is a formidable golden-eyed Breed male called Hunter. Once Dragos’s most deadly assassin, Hunter now works for the Order, and he’s hell-bent on making Dragos pay for his manifold sins. Bonded to Corinne by their mutual desire, Hunter will have to decide how far he’ll go to end Drago’s reign of evil – even if carrying out his mission means shattering Corinne’s tender heart.

.

Absolutely adored this book! This was my very first book by Lara Adrian and I can guarantee it won’t be my last. How I haven’t read this series yet is beyond me. If you love The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward then you most certainly will also love The Midnight Breed Series as they are alike in a lot of ways. The set up is basically the same. A clan (union, group, whatever) of vampires that fight for the good of humanity against evil villains hellbent of taking over the world. Add in the fact that these vampires are smoking hot and could kill you a multitude of ways with only their pinky fingers and you have a concoction intent on providing you with a fast paced thrill ride of a book.

Deeper Than Midnight gives us Hunter, a stoic vampire killing machine that was hand raised by the evilest of evil, Dragos. Finding his freedom in a past book Hunter now works for The Order and their leader, Lucan. He is emotionless, attention diverted so far by only that of a small child. His loyalty to The Order knows no bounds and laying down his life, if it came to that, would not be second guessed. When presented with the task of taking a past captive home to her family, Hunter unknowingly sets forth a chain of events that will ultimately lead to his undoing.

Corinne just wants to go home. Home to the place she has only dreamed of in the past 70 some years she was held captive. Forced to drink the blood of an ancient vampire to keep her young. Keep her viable. Beaten but certainly not broken, Corinne has never given up. A single hope keeping her alive. Finding the child that was taken from her loving arms. Now she is free. Now she must find that which kept her sane while suffering horrible abuse. The calm and unmoving vampire Hunter might possibly get in her way. The feelings she has for him are new and inviting…but when asked to choose, will he help or hinder her?

.

Lara Adrian had me spellbound! Deeper Than Midnight gave me everything I wanted. A cold, almost mean hero. A heroine who had been through hell but not broken. Action out the wazoo. And steamy sexiness that could melt butter on a cold surface. I loved it. I want more. Well, I guess 8 previous books shouldn’t take me too long huh? I loved Hunter’s slow reactions to Corinne. Since emotions are so “human” he wasn’t sure what to make of his speedy heart, tingling limbs and uh..growing….love? Yeah love…let’s go with that. He was ruthlessly detached when he needed to be and gentle and caring when in Corinne’s embrace.

I felt bad for Corinne. Having been tortured for so long and now thrust back into an uncaring world. Everything changing, no one to trust. It was sad. Her love for her child evident in the fact that she never gave up hope he was alive…that he could be saved from Dragos’ evil world plot. She didn’t do a whole lot of cowering even when I expected her to.  He reactions to Hunter in the beginning were to be expected and I enjoyed her warming to him slowly. Hunter was patient even when he didn’t need to be or understand why.

Deeper Than Midnight was a great book. I enjoyed every minute of it and will probably end up rereading it someday when I read them all in order. If you like paranormal romance, you will like this! I’m proof that you don’t have to read the entire series in order to understand the book. What are you waiting for? GO READ IT!

I give Deeper Than Midnight by Lara Adrian 5 stars

Dead, Undead or Somewhere Inbetween by JA Saare (Rhiannon’s Law #1) and GIVEAWAY

Available: Now Amazon

Type: Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy

Publisher: Mundania Press

My Copy: I bought 1 and had new updated version sent to me

One bad corpse can ruin your whole day.

No one knows that better than Rhiannon Murphy.

She left behind the flash and sass of Miami for the no-nonsense groove of New York City, eager for a clean slate and a fresh start. A bartender by trade, a loud mouth by choice, and a necromancer by chance; she managed to keep her nifty talent hidden from those around her—until now.

The deliciously good-looking vampire, Disco, knows her secret. When he strolls into her bar to solicit help investigating the mysterious disappearances of his kind from the city, Rhiannon discovers he’s not the kind of person that appreciates the significance of the word no.

But in a world where vampires peddle their blood as the latest and greatest drug of choice, it’s only a matter of time before the next big thing hits the market. Someone or something is killing vampires to steal their hearts, and unlike Rhiannon, this isn’t their first stroll around the undead block.

.

First off I should make it clear that I am writing this on a weekend. Having said that I have had a few drinks. I apologize in advance to poor  JA Saare. However the first time I tried to write this review I kept getting side tracked by Yosemite Sam talk on Twitter. Don’t ask, long story. I will say @JulieALindsey was fully at fault. So I put off writing the review till today. But it was a long day and the Blue Moon beer was calling my name…literally…”NIKKIIIIIIII” Yeah like that. I’ve only had one….ok two…so this review should be fairly coherent. Honestly though there is only one part I want to really discuss..but we will get there.

JA has created an awesome world, both dark and alluringly sexy. I wasn’t sure at first as Rhiannon is a bit rough around the edges. She grew on me, which is great because I hate hating the main character in a book. When you get half way through a book and you want to punch the main female in the face, it doesn’t bode well. I did not have those problems with this book. Rhiannon, though rough around the edges did have a good heart, she just didn’t know how to unlock it. The girl had MASSIVE baggage. She can see dead people..see me channeling my inner Haley Joel Osmont creepy whisper. She can talk and interact them as well. Awesome parlor trick, let me tell you. I’d be friends with that girl right quick.

So anyway, Rhiannon can talk to dead people, but she doesn’t like to. She tries her best to ignore all of them even though they seek her out. Until Disco, the incredibly sexy Adonis God look alike vampire with a chip on his shoulder approaches her asking..err demanding her help. Vampires are disappearing at a rapid rate and Rhiannon is the only Necromancer around that can see the twice dead. Working for Disco is a definite change from bartending at the boobie bar and Rhiannon, knowing she really has no choice, agrees to help him.

The section of the book I really want to talk about is the sex scene. Let me prepare you…what I am going to say is a bit graphic. Shoot as I was reading it I got on twitter and asked my girl @bellie7 if I was reading it correctly. Rhiannon and Disco get down and dirty. A variety of ways actually. Rhiannon is as pure as her attitude is not. So as expected after their (I can’t really say coupling as that’s to nice) animalistic venture into the world of sex with a vamp…there is blood…between her legs. I though eww kinda gross, but hey, the first time out of the ballpark that happens. No big. Then Disco says, and I’m paraphrasing here, that’s me, we ejaculate blood. Uh come again JA? What the what? Really? At this point in the book my jaw unhinged and I just sat there a minute taking that little tidbit in. You know, I’m not squeamish per say, but uhhhhh eww LOL.  That sex better be SMOKIN for me to endure a bloody vagina (I blame @kuuipo_228 for the use of the word vagina, I wanted vajayjay) every time. Then I got over it and kept reading. Kudus to JA for adding something into a book I had never ever in a million years thought about. On a quick side note they also sweat blood…so I wouldn’t go jogging with any of them if I were you.

There were a few parts that dragged for me. I think it was because I was stuck on Disco and so any part of the book, though important to the story line as they were, that didn’t involve him left me impatiently waiting for his return. There is a ton of lore to get across to the readers and those were the time I thought it dragged.  Not to say the secondary characters weren’t good, they were. Just at times I wanted something to happen and nothing did.

All in all the book was fab. I enjoyed it, even the quirky aspects I had never thought about. The second book, The Renfield Project will be available this summer. Dead, Undead or Somewhere In Between is a great addition to the paranormal romance realm. Sexy, action packed and mysterious with just about enough sexual tension to bring you to your breaking point. Disco is yummy. I want him. Nuff said.

I give Dead, Undead or Somewhere In Between 4 stars!

.

Thanks to the awesome ladies at KLB Events and JA Saare I have a e-copy of the book to give away! This is open to anyone, anywhere :) All you have to do is leave me a way to track you down and answer this question:

Giving Up The Ghost by Melissa Ecker

Available: NOW Amazon/B&N

Type: Novella

Publisher: Turquoise Morning Press

My Copy: Sent By KLB Events

Kylie McAllister has it all until her world is shattered by the death of her husband, Jackson, in a car accident. After a year of grieving, Kylie uses the proceeds from Jackson’s life insurance to purchase a plantation home on the outskirts of New Orleans to start over with their daughter, Abby. Confirmed bachelor, Ryan LaCroix, has no intentions of settling down with anyone, let alone his best friend’s widow, but somehow Kylie and Abby find their way into his heart.

After discovering an old Ouija board in the attic of her new home, Kylie unwittingly opens a cosmic door to an incubus who pretends to be the dead husband she is so desperately struggling to let go of. She falls deep under his potent spell of delicious sex and malevolent obsession while he gradually drains her life to fortify his own. By the time she realizes he’s an imposter, she is powerless to stop him. Together, with Jackson’s subliminal guidance and the help of a kind voodoo practitioner, Ryan and Kylie wage a fight for her life against the evil entity.

.

.

Let me start this out by saying I spent a good part of this book crying. Not those cute silent tears either. Like puffy red eyes, runny nose, sobbing uncontrollably type of crying. It was not pretty. My husband laughed at me…several times. Melissa Ecker has woven a story to pull at your heartstrings. From the instant I picked it up I was engaged in the story. Not once did I think…ok, lets just skip that part.

I enjoyed the slow warming of emotions for Ryan and Kylie. It was a simmer that became a full-on boil as he stepped in after her husbands death to help take care of her and her daughter. Ryan battled with some pretty intense loyalty emotions because Kylie’s husband had been his best friend. Falling in love was something he had shied away from for years. Though he always carried a torch for Kylie, she was off limits. When Jackson died, she was still off limits because of her mourning and fragile emotional state.

Kylie knew moving on would be hard. Jackson was her world. Trying to move on she bought a old plantation house and moved her and her infant daughter in. The house gave her a slight creepy feel but she brushed it off as being lonely. And she was. Very lonely. The old Ouija board in the attic left from someone years before, gave her the opportunity, although slight, to talk to her beloved husband again. Thrilled to have any response Kylie believes Jackson is communicating with her. But it’s not Jackson, no matter how much it says it is…this is something much worse. It’s jealous now. Jealous of the growing relationship with Ryan. Jealous of Kylie’s daughter. It wants Kylie. All of her. And it won’t stop until it drains her dry. Slowly.

.

.

Giving Up The Ghost combined both a scorching sensuality and a Paranormal Activity (that movie scared me to death)  type of feel. I felt horrible for Kylie. She ultimately felt responsible for the wreck that claimed her husband life. Coupled with the fact that she was now incredibly lonely. She wanted to believe Jackson was still with her. I’ve always been extremely leary of Ouija boards. I’ve always believed in demons. I could understand her need to talk and feel her husband again but I was screaming…don’t pick it up! Leave it alone! Voodoo intrigues me.  I wasn’t surprised when something sinister slithered through the doorway she unknowingly opened. Something that said and did all the right things…at first. They lie.

Ryan was a great character. He was attentive, sensitive and very protective. His ability to slow it down when Kylie needed it was remarkable and I instantly loved him. Faced with the unexplainable he of course balked…who wouldn’t. But his love for Kylie was strong enough to overcome. Not to mention he was HAWT! Muscles on top of muscles under flawless skin. YUMMY.

I would recommend this book to all the paranormal romance lovers out there. Melissa Ecker has created a novella that will engage your heart and snare your sensual side. Both creepy and sexy will ensure you keep reading until the climactic ending.

.

I give Giving Up the Ghost by Melissa Ecker 4 stars!
