WANTED

Single human female to join charming, wealthy, single male were-cougar for a night of romantic fun—and maybe more.

Me: The tall, sensuous, open-minded leader of my clan.

You: A deliciously curvy virgin who’s intimately familiar with what goes bump in the night. Must not be afraid of a little tail. Prefer a woman who’s open to exploring her animal nature. Interest in nighttime walks through the woods a plus.

My turn-ons include protecting you from the worst the supernatural world has to offer. Ready for an adventure? Give me a call.

Vampires and doppelgangers need not apply.

Beauty Dates The Beast is the first in a new series called Midnight Liaisons. It focuses around a paranormal client dating service and the employees that work there. This first book is primarily about Bathsheba (yeah, I don’t like the name either) and Beau. Beau is the leader of his chapter of were-cougars and, oh my, he is deliciously yummy! Bathsheba is the office manager at Midnight Liaisons who is also hiding the fact that her sister is a werewolf and is being hunted by her pack. Bath likes her job though, and really doesn’t want to run anymore if she doesn’t have to. When Beaus very important account goes awry she sees no other choice then to step in and try and handle it herself. What she doesn’t expect is for Beau to propose she take the place of his non-committal date. Knowing she will basically lose her job either way, Bath agrees to date him, but under no circumstances, sleep with him. Beau is persistent in his pursuit of Bath and she won’t be able to hold out for long. Especially when a stalker seems to be following her and she needs to be in close quarters with Beau for protection.

This book was a good set up for following books in the series. We meet a variety of secondary characters and learn a bit about the hierarchy within the paranormal community. Bath and Beau worked well together. I enjoyed Beaus persistence as well as his limitless patience. He took his time with Bath, esp since she was the lily white virgin that she was, and I liked that aspect. I do get a bit tired of the virgin routine. I find it hard to believe that someone in their mid twenties, in this day and age, is still a virgin. Yes, yes I know it happens. I get that. Seriously though, if every book I am reading has a virgin then no one anywhere is having sex…ever. Where are the ladies that are sexually sure of themselves? Where are the assertive ones?

The storyline flowed nicely and I didn’t have much trouble with it. I loved the aspect of a dating service. There are a few boring parts that could have been spiced up. I thought it took a long time to get anywhere. There is a ton of Bath wanting Beau but not wanting to give in. There didn’t feel like there was enough action and then the end explodes with it. I thought a bit more lead up would have been nice prior to the finding out who was behind everything and what they were. Perhaps a bit more danger then just someone sneaking around in a house. I did like the mystical paranormal being that was behind the attacks. It’s one I don’t know a whole lot about because not many authors have included them. I like that. Original.

Really liked the were-bear (I like saying that word too lol), Ramsey. He is a hulking, brooding, short on words man…but underneath he’s, well, a teddy bear. Even though you don’t see a ton of him through out this book, its insinuated that he and Baths sister, Sara are an item of sorts. Based on the ending of this one, I’d say they were most likely the ringleaders of the next one and I can’t wait. I do love a huge man with a heart of gold. Also helps he can probably bench press a tree trunk. Sara will be an interesting lead because she is portrayed is small and jumpy. I like my female characters to have some spunk so I really hope she grows up a bit. Though it may have only been because Bath tends to mother the crap outta her and she needs to be free and live her own life.

Beauty Dates The Beast is a solid start to what appears to be a great new paranormal series! Loved the character interaction and plot arc into the next book. It had an innovative spin on the quickly becoming exhausted paranormal genre. Jessica Sims is definitely an author to watch!

I give Beauty Dates The Beast by Jessica Sims 3.75 stars!
