Alpha female of both the werewolf and vampire species Josephine Wade has a problem–two, actually. The first is Etienne Bordeaux, her former vampire lover she hopes to seduce again. The second is her estranged Alpha werewolf mate, Braxton Wade, who wants to show her that she may be dominant, but he’s even more so, especially with her under him and his teeth marking her. Both powerful males want her back, but only one can have her heart, body and soul.
As Josephine tries to control the situation between her former lover and her husband, her world begins to unravel. What was once the truth is now fiction, and what was fiction is now truth. Only she can be the one to unite both truth and fiction to save those closest to her and take her place beside her true mate in both the werewolf and vampire worlds.
I truly enjoyed Voodoo I do, Sayde’s newest book. It was an excellent mix of hot erotic and paranormal romance. Sayde paints a picture of mystic voodoo practices deep in the swamp of old plantation land. Where weres, vamps and witches intermingle within a political hierarchy parallel to our own.
Josie, being the only known half were, half vampire straddles both worlds with a seeming ease. Her past is shadowed in betrayal and mystery. Given up by her father after her mother’s death, Josie was raised as a house slave on a neighboring plantation. Forced to watch her father remarry and raise another child from a distance. Her, seemingly forgotten.
Aided by her best friend, and fellow slave Cam, Josie grows into a beautiful woman. One who catches the eye of Etienne, the house Master and vampire. Their love is cut short by a Josie’s half sister and a voodoo curse which allows them never to touch. Years later, after Josie marries her mate, the were Braxton, her past slowly starts to surface with the reappearance of Etienne.
Full of family intrigue, murder and revenge, Voodoo I Do has it all. Sayde writes with a quiet abandon that draws a reader into her world of mystery. I loved the voodoo take on the storyline and thought it added the necessary elements to keep me turning the pages. Normally if a book has voodoo aspects in it, it isn’t paranormal as well. I loved the twining of two of my favorite branches of romance.
Josie and Braxton heat the pages to near burning levels again and again. They were a perfect mix of personalities together. Though I would consider both very dominant characters. Etienne was a thorn in their side and I’m left wondering how this love triangle will progress as the series continues. While I liked Etienne, I think Braxton is much sexier and more alpha. Etienne had a quiet, scary thing going on. He was mean when he needed to be but otherwise maintains a playful, seductive allure. I was intrigued by him. I will be anxious to see where he ends up. Braxton was all growls and snarls and “don’t touch my mate”, which I of course love.
There were a full array of secondary characters that help move the storyline along. All with their own back-story and independence from the pack. I didn’t feel there were too many and I loved the friendly banter amongst everyone. You could tell they were family in every sense..complete with misunderstandings and hurt feelings. Some ranging centuries.
The only thing I wish would have been delved more into was the presence of the ghosts. There are passing remarks made about the ghosts in the house but never anything concrete. Then in one scene we see Josie’s mothers ghost in the swamp and it was only briefly mentioned. I would have liked further clarification as to what these ghosts were doing there. I’m hoping in the next book we get more of that.
If you’re looking for some extra hot erotic romance, and love paranormal shifters, Voodoo I Do is an awesome choice! Sayde has a scorchingly hot winner with this one!
I give Voodoo I Do by Sayde Grace 4 stars!
